T'was the Day After...

And Obama won!

We hadn't been listening to the news all day, being too nervous and busy. But as the Bring Your Own Effigy hour approached, Obama already had a lead.

I swear, I walked back into the kitchen for a minute, went back, and the election coverage was talking about President Elect Obama. "It's over!" The early arrivals ran into the room. Before most of the guests arrived - he'd won.

Wow!

So there was nothing to do but have a celebratory jello shot and a fresh keg cup of beer. We spent the rest of the evening with the bonfire (and Mike Kelly effigy), bouncing back and forth to hear McCain's concession, another jello shot, Obama's phenomenal speech, another jello shot, and then desperately hoping for a crumb of local news. Oh, and Flic made a kicking moose chili.

Today? We celebrate some more, I think. But I'm laying off the jello shots. There are a few here with your name on them, Ish.

Oh, man, about Mike Kelly. I've the barest hope that outstanding ballots will tip things, but we're talking about the same level of hope I have for finding a fiver in the hall.

Apparently saying poor people don't deserve heat isn't enough to get you replaced.

God, so much drinking last night. I don't think I want to get within eyeshot of a bottle of anything for a few days. Maybe it's just our side of town (as opposed to the base side), but everyone seemed really jazzed.

Was anybody crying? I was.

It's so far 25-75 for me, but the BIG ONE came through. I can live with Ted and Don for as long as they last as long as Obama is president.

The Kodiak House Race is almost too close to call. 109 votes separate my man from the leader, but there are 1,400 absentee (mostly early absentee-in-person) votes to count. That's fully a third of the vote in these parts.

I look forward to the day when we can haul those jello shots out of the freezer and imbibe. And, I loves me some moose chili....

Go OBAMA! We rule!

Uh, it looks like I'll have to make another batch. We went and finished yours. :)
