Suddenly, Everyone is Paying Attention to the Money

Over at Alaskan Abroad, and at the ADN, there is the news that investigators are now looking at contributions to Uncle Ted and Don Young, a.k.a. That Bozo We Keep Inflicting on Ourselves.

Oh, go read the coverage, no need for me to summarize their stuff. Even the big dogs are on the story at the New York Times.

After reading about the latest possible scandal, I took a look at their finances as outlined at open.secrets.org (links over at the right.) How fascinating. For the time period reported, only 23.9 percent of Young's money comes from Alaska. 76.1 percent comes from Outside.

What is your problem with Don Young.

He is a great congressman.

I would say that he is better than 90% of the members of congress. He represents your district well and works hard.

Maybe some of us are more interested in him serving the nation well.

And yes, he works hard - hard at building his retirement fund.

Hmmm.

There are no districts here. All we get as a representative, our one dude in the House, is Mr. Young.

I confess, I'm shocked that anyone would take the time to defend the man. He's not evil, I don't think, but the only thing he offers is the fact that he has been there a while - and can offer the perks of his seniority. (Which is something he brings up often.)

Thought you might find this interesting. Don Young really is successful (where success is defined by per capita earmarks brought back home). http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2007/06/sunlight_founda.html
