Coping With Another Seasonal Disorder
Otherwise Known as Summer

I have full onset MAD, aka 'manic affective disorder.'

Who, really, other than that dedicated Ish (or maybe your weather isn't as nice down there yet) can stand to sit indoors and write about life right now? There are potatos to be got in the ground, old decrepit garden beds which-were-probably-grow-ops-back-in-the-day that need to be turned into growable space, chicken coops to be constructed, crap to haul out of the yard... oh, and there is drinking beer in the sun. One can't remain dedicated to the "Honey Do" list without a bit of reward.

I'm here, I'm running around like a maniac trying to get projects done... just like most of Squarebanks. There wasn't even room to park your pickup by the reuse area at the local transfer station Sunday afternoon.

It just got nice three days ago. I spent as much time in the outdoors as I could after work today -- that is, until the sun beat down on my pale face a little too hard and the beer started calling....

Is the new header your road? Whose job was it to plow it this winter?

The new header is my road.

And it isn't anybody's job to plow it in the winter, because, as I found out when I looked it up, we are not a road service area.

Ah, life on a road without road service. Someday a post all of its own, perhaps.

Needless to say, the road gets very interesting during breakup. I attribute at least one set of ball joints to the wear and tear of driving to the main road.

Since the snow is gone, isn't it time to start chopping wood for the winter? I joke...

OUCH!

I'll see Ishmael's observation, and raise it with a resounding HARRUMPH!

Unfortunately, you're RIGHT! gack. I am planning to cash out my savings and install some sort of alternative heater-thing, mebbe a masonry stove or some such. The price of both fuel oil and wood will be horrendous in three months.

Hi All! Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this for the past week... (my wireless adapter died and the new one is taking a while to get here; blogging via dialup is like being stuck in an elevator).

Sorry about the wood chopping joke... but if it makes you feel any better I split wood down here too. And believe me, splitting redgum (even with a log splitter) is hard yacka compared to the ease of splitting pine and birch.

Cabindweller: The highway leading to your cabin looks a lot like the roads I used to take a freight truck down while delivering... Finding turnaround space in the winter was the hardest thing.

Deirdre: there's an easy way to make your own involving a 55 gal drum, house bricks, dry sand, and sheet metal. The wood burns for ages and puts out a LOT of heat.
